Meet Lauren Spencer, MS, LMFT

My desire to become a counselor was born in the 7th grade when I read a book about a child psychologist. The plot hit home as my mother was seriously ill for much of my childhood, leading my family to really lean into our support system. I was the recipient of so much love and support from our loved ones, without which our family's story would be very different. As I grew up, I realized how many people face life's curveballs, stresses, and tragedies on their own.

I pursued counseling as my career in order to step into people's journeys as they walk some of life's toughest roads, whether they're facing OCD, anxiety disorders, or stressful relationships.

When I'm not with clients, I enjoy playing with my giant dog, Watson, gardening, and restoring old furniture.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe the greatest predictor of health comes from our relationships, and research agrees. The therapeutic relationship is therefore the foundation for all of my treatment modalities. I have experience working with children, newlyweds and newly engaged, couples married for 30 years, and individuals across the board.

My therapeutic foundation is in Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Acceptance-Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy. For OCD, I use Exposure-Response Prevention and ACT.

Therapy with me offers a warm, safe environment. I believe in my clients and rejoice with them as symptoms abate, relationships heal, and self-esteem recovers. I also bring my sense of humor to the table because sometimes we need to be reminded that there is still joy even in our darkest chapters.

I look forward to meeting you!
